Kirby-Smith Machinery, Inc. partnered with the Texas Asphalt Pavement Association (TXAPA) and the North Central Texas Council of Governments to host an Asphalt Paving and Compaction Workshop in April for various government entities in the Dallas / Fort Worth area. Kirby-Smith helped organize the seminar for TXAPA, hosting the event at the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Arlington office.  Over 97 attendees from 34 government entities participated in the comprehensive workshop, which covered best practices for asphalt paving, compaction, milling, and cold recycling as well as operational safety and a review of appropriate mix types for asphalt projects in Texas.

Represented at the workshop were: City of Dallas, City of Fort Worth, City of Celina, City of Carrolton, City of Grand Prairie, Tarrant County, City of Kennedale, City of Euless, City of Benbrook, City of Mansfield, City of Lewisville, City of Rockwall, City of Irving, City of Weatherford, City of Denton, City of Rowlett, City of Arlington, Collin County, Town of Addison, North Texas Tollway Authority, City of North Richland Hills, City of Duncanville, City of Richardson, City of Coppell, City of Frisco, City of Lancaster, City of Grapevine, and Texas Department of Transportation. Sol Gieser, Texas Governmental Sales Manager for Kirby-Smith was thankful for the group effort that went into creating such a successful event. “I want to thank TXAPA for providing such quality training to the various entities represented at the workshop, as well as the North Central Texas Council of Governments for their help in hosting and co-marketing the event with us.”

Larry Welch, Industry Relation Consultant for TXAPA’s Hot Mix Asphalt Center provided the instruction for all topics covered throughout the seminar. A proponent of continual education for organizations that operate in the asphalt paving industry, Welch was pleased with the overall participation level of the workshop, and the opportunity to work with such a diverse group of governmental employees.  “TXAPA has been expanding our training opportunities for several years now, trying to get everyone on the same page regarding asphalt paving. The opportunity to reach out to so many cities, counties, and other groups at once was amazing. This has been one of our biggest training events so far!”

Harrold Mullen, Executive Vice President for TXAPA recognized Kirby-Smith for their efforts for organizing the event. “TXAPA is grateful for industry partners, like Kirby-Smith, who understand the value of training and education for their customers.  I look forward to working with Kirby-Smith on future training events.”
