Understand the Risks: Not All Parts Are Created Equally
- Incomplete product line: Brand X has a limited offering of part numbers in comparison with Komatsu Reman.
- Units are not always direct copies: Many products presented by Brand X can be a mismatch of different styles of brands, placed together in a “Will-Fit/Will-Function” unit.
- Jump Start Protection is often not included: Jump Start Protection devices prevent ignition by-pass at the starter by the technician while someone is working on the machine.
- Some Brand X alternators are supplied with a Fan & Pulley that may not be correct for the Komatsu application.
- Some Komatsu alternators are crossed to a Brand X single unit to cover multiple amperage applications.
- Quality of Brand X is not consistent: Two same units of the Brand X (same supplier, same part numbers) may have different technical features & quality. Such common examples of inconsistent quality are the following:
- Amperage ratings from manufacturer are different on tag.
- Neither of the two units meets the amperage listed on their tags.
- The units may have the same part number but have different sized pulleys.
- The electrical terminals and insulators are different between the units.
- Many Brand X alternators will not pass performance testing compared to OE specifications.
- Unregulated Brand X internal components: Brand X copied components are unregulated. Therefore, they are not interchangeable with OE components making the replacement of individual pieces impossible once the Brand X unit is used.
- Technical advice not offered by Brand X: Present supplier for Komatsu Reman continues to offer detailed analysis for warranty status as well as technical advice across all levels of the Komatsu supply chain.
- Komatsu Support for Reman: The customer can have a peace of mind thanks to the Komatsu product managers and the customer service team. Furthermore, warranty and protection plans are available through your OEM.
